TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator
TikTok videos are shown to people who do not follow you, so engagement is usually judged against views. This calculator gives you the rate by views and by followers.

How TikTok engagement rate is calculated
TikTok's For You feed shows videos to people who do not follow you, so follower count says little about who watched. Two formulas are used:
- By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ video views × 100. This is the usual choice on TikTok because it measures how the people who actually watched reacted.
- By followers: the same interactions ÷ followers × 100. This is easier to compare with Instagram and is still requested by some brands.
A video with 40,000 views, 3,200 likes, 150 comments, 220 shares and 310 saves has 3,880 interactions. That is a 9.7% rate by views. On a 25,000-follower account it is 15.5% by followers, which looks high only because the video travelled beyond the followers.
Where to find the numbers
- Switch to a creator or business account so analytics are available.
- Open the video and tap Analytics to see views, likes, comments, shares and saves.
- Enter your follower count from your profile, or leave it at 0 to skip the follower rate.
What is a good TikTok engagement rate?
| Rate (by views) | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|
| Under 3% | Below average |
| 3% to 6% | Average |
| 6% to 10% | Good |
| Above 10% | Very high |
These are informal rules of thumb, not figures from TikTok, and published benchmarks vary widely by niche and video type. Compare your own videos with each other first.
Which interactions are the strongest signals?
Likes are the easiest interaction and the weakest signal. Shares and saves mean someone found the video worth sending or returning to, and comments start a conversation. The share and save rate shown above is a good number to watch if you are trying to learn what content works.
How to raise your TikTok engagement
- Hook viewers in the first one to two seconds and keep the pace up.
- Finish with a reason to act, such as a question, a tip to save or a part two.
- Reply to comments with a video to turn comments into new content.
- Keep captions short and use on-screen text so the video works without sound.
- If views suddenly dropped, check the For You eligibility guide.
To estimate what these views could earn, use the TikTok money calculator. For other platforms see the Instagram and YouTube versions.
Frequently asked questions
Should TikTok engagement be calculated by views or followers?
Views is the more accurate and more common choice on TikTok, because many viewers do not follow you. Use followers only when a brand asks for it.
Why is my rate by followers over 100%?
It can happen when a video goes far beyond your followers. The interactions are measured against your follower count, which is smaller than the audience that reacted. Use the rate by views instead.
Do I count profile visits or follows?
No. This calculator uses likes, comments, shares and saves, which are the standard interactions.
Is a high like rate with few shares a problem?
Not a problem, but shares and saves are stronger signs that the video is useful, so aim to grow them over time.
